A Selection of Blankets from the Americas
This exhibition catalog is a series of blankets of different indigenous peoples from North and South America to be shown in natural history and anthropology museums across both continents. You can learn about the different types of blankets throughout North and South America from these snippets of their history along with this collection of visual examples. A forward essay by Lynn S. Teague, retired archaeologist and advocate, provides an opportunity to learn about the process of making different motifs and by also providing some context wherein I hope that a connection to the past and to ancestors can grow.

Approximately 10” x 7”, coptic stitch binding, and using environmentally friendly paper, I went through a series of type tests and layouts to help create a pattern and rhythm reminiscent of the beautiful textiles of the Americas showcased here. Large blank areas allow you breathing room between each artifact as you would walk through the spaces in a museum.
“…a perspective that encourages us to see beyond defined archaeological traditions and the current international boundary to some fundamental commonalities on both sides of the border.”
